About Fragrance Oil
  • The fragrance oils sold by Scent Memory are a manufacturing product. They are not skin safe on their own and must be diluted prior to use.
  • Our oils are formulated to generally work in candle and body care applications, but must be tested for compatibility in your product.
  • Due to the concentration of the oils safety precautions must be taken when handling them.

What are fragrance oils?

Fragrance oils are synthetic or blended aromatic compounds designed to mimic natural scents or create entirely new ones. Unlike essential oils, which are extracted from plants, fragrance oils are crafted by blending aromatic chemicals and natural extracts. This careful formulation allows for a wide range of scents that may not be possible to achieve with essential oils alone and also allows for greater safety and performance in their applications.

How Can Fragrance Oils Be Used?

Though they smell beautiful on their own, fragrance oils are a manufacturing product and must be diluted prior to use. They can be formulated for one specific purpose (such as for soap or in a candle) or for a wider range of applications - however, no one fragrance oil will work in ALL applications, so testing your products is a must. The fragrance oils that Scent Memory Fragrance offer are generally formulated to be safe in candle and body care applications.

Are Fragrance Oils Safe On Their Own?

Just like any concentrated product, care must be used in handling fragrance oils prior to dilution in product. Every fragrance oil product page contains the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) in the "Regulatory Documents" tab. Download and review prior to using the fragrance oil.

Safety Information
  • Fragrance oils are a manufacturing product used in making candles, soap and other products. They must be diluted before use.
  • Refer to the IFRA tab for maximum skin safety usage rates, and review the IFRA document carefully.
  • Maximum usage rates refer to skin safety percentages only and are not recommendations for usage rates in products or formulas. Refer to your formula for the recommended usage rate, and do not use the fragrance oil if the IFRA rate is not rated highly enough for use in your product.
  • Download and review the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) document provided in the IFRA & SDS tab. Follow all safety guidelines recommended. Do not allow contact with skin or ingest. Follow all IFRA guidelines for dilution in product.  Care should be used in handling at all times.

DISCLAIMER: The fragrance oils sold by Scent Memory are a manufacturing component and not a finished product. Scent Memory is not responsible for any products made from materials purchased from the site, nor do we guarantee the performance or safety of the end product. Proper testing and ensuring compatibility of all materials the is the responsibility of the purchaser. We always recommend purchasing the smallest amount of product available and testing before committing to a larger size.

  • Smells EXACTLY like going to a bookstore, sticking your nose into a fresh book
  • Smells like the pages of old books. Woody, sandalwood and vanilla scent so well blended
  • Beautiful scent with a bit of sweetness and air of mystery. I love the balmy paper note

Lost in the Stacks

I used this in a cologne titled Reading Nook. I made it take on a bohemian vibe of my cozy corner reading area.

complex woody floral scent, mimic the scent of ink on paper

Stunning fragrance! Exactly as described. I can't wait to add this to my line!

A winner for me!

E

Smells a bit too ink-y for me. Works great if combined with another "paper" scent!

Top seller, i love the notes in this one.

This brings back academia vibes! It smells like the pages of old books that turns yellowish. When you try to flip through the pages and fan it. You get that woody, sandalwood and vanilla scent that is so well blended. Perfect for perfume!

This is how I imagine the library in Bridgerton or Downton Abbey smells. Filled to the brim with lovely, old books, scrumptious plates of scones and jam, and MONEY. Fabulous!

I think if pages of a book actually smelled like this, I would read more paperbacks and less on my tablet.

Love it.

I really wish this was less sweet smelling and more of that paper-y smell. Still, it's a very warm and lovely powdery scent. I made a small soy candle with it and the HT was very light. I think I might buy the other bookish scent and mix them to see if I can get a stronger HT that smells more like books.

Has the subtle sweetness of old books. I use this for the majority of a blend I make that's a best seller. Folks go nuts for it in perfume and candles.

Love the scnet. Thanking of using a room spray

Most favorite oil I order from Scent Memory.

Just like in the stacks of books. I love these scents

G

One of my favorites, it makes an excellent perfume and Emulsified body butter. A little to light for CP soap.

A
A.R.

This is a nice deep woody unisex scent. It has a powdery touch as well. I think most people would like it and it is non-offensive (not too strong and well balanced).

A

I love the smell of it OOTB. It certainly lives up to its name, but the HT is very light. We tested 12, 10, and 8 percent with a very light HT.

This is another lovely scent, my bookworm niece loved it, had to give her my tester and will have to order more. Nice throw in coco apricot wax.

I love this fragrance more than any other. Its the perfect papery book scent, totally evocative of the smell of parchment and ink. It smells EXACTLY like going to a bookstore, sticking your nose into a fresh book with deckled edges, and flipping the pages. I love to blend it with other fragrances to add a bookish note and create a nice baseline. I use this for everything, and of all of my scent memory fragrances, this is the one I actually wear as a perfume for myself in my daily life, mixed with some chocolate fragrance!

I love this complex sweet slightly earthy yet warm scent… however it does have a hint of camphor that reminds me of Carmex. I blended it with another scent and it’s just beautiful.

K

Lost in the Stacks is cozy with hints of warmth and I pick up notes of smoke. It reminds me of my fathers cologne as a little girl. I don’t pick up old books or library in this scent but love it just the same. Truly, all Scent Memory scents are winners. I can’t say enough about the obsession I have with all of the beautiful fragrances that are offered.

Fantastic, warm, cozy fragrance. It's great in soy candles. I also use it for eau de toilette. I wish it had a higher IFRA for perfume, but as it is it is great for people looking for something that isn't too strong.

I really waited a long time to try this because I already have been using Plum & Parchment with great success. I thought that Lost In the Stacks would be too similar to try. It's not. They are both great and while being related they're more like cousins than twin sisters. Lost is younger and more feminine leaning while Plum is a little more grown up and unisex. They are both great and different enough to offer in the same line of products

Smells like an Ivy League college library during finals week. I had no idea what to expect from this one but it actually blew me away, I put it in a diffuser and I found myself just sitting there sniffing for maybe 10 mins, it was so good, such a unique smell. I would say it’s definitely unisex.

B

This is definitely a must have. It behaves nicely in cp soap with strong scent retention. I also offer it in a roller perfume and have had customers request it in body butter. Love love love it!

K
K.S.

Really enjoyed this scent. It is cozy and nostalgic and makes me want to sit down with a good book in front of the fire. It threw very well in M12 and Maker’s Blend 100. Really enjoyed it.

Another winner, this one would be great in a fall/winter line. It gives me cozy vibes. Also, beautiful in perfume.

J
J.S.

This scent is on the sweet side but it isn't overpowering. It's soft, elegant, and refined. It makes a really great bar of soap and I look forward to using it in wax.

Wow! Very interesting fragrance.

It does smell exactly like MM. This isn’t a fragrance I’m too fond over just from personal preference, but I could see how a more niche crowd would go crazy over this one! You almost get the cedar desk and dust notes (in a mysterious good way) it’s very nostalgic!
