About Fragrance Oil
  • The fragrance oils sold by Scent Memory are a manufacturing product. They are not skin safe on their own and must be diluted prior to use. 
  • Our oils are formulated to generally work in candle and body care applications, but must be tested for compatibility in your product. 
  • Due to the concentration of the oils safety precautions must be taken when handling them. 

What are fragrance oils?

Fragrance oils are synthetic or blended aromatic compounds designed to mimic natural scents or create entirely new ones. Unlike essential oils, which are extracted from plants, fragrance oils are crafted by blending aromatic chemicals and natural extracts. This careful formulation allows for a wide range of scents that may not be possible to achieve with essential oils alone and also allows for greater safety and performance in their applications. 

How Can Fragrance Oils Be Used?

Though they smell beautiful on their own, fragrance oils are a manufacturing product and must be diluted prior to use. They can be formulated for one specific purpose (such as for soap or in a candle) or for a wider range of applications - however, no one fragrance oil will work in ALL applications, so testing your products is a must. The fragrance oils that Scent Memory Fragrance offer are generally formulated to be safe in candle and body care applications. 

Are Fragrance Oils Safe On Their Own?

Just like any concentrated product, care must be used in handling fragrance oils prior to dilution in product. Every fragrance oil product page contains the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) in the "Regulatory Documents" tab. Download and review prior to using the fragrance oil.

  • Fragrance oils are a manufacturing product used in making candles, soap and other products. They must be diluted before use.
  • Refer to the IFRA tab for maximum skin safety usage rates, and review the IFRA document carefully. 
  • Maximum usage rates refer to skin safety percentages only and are not recommendations for usage rates in products or formulas. Refer to your formula for the recommended usage rate, and do not use the fragrance oil if the IFRA rate is not rated highly enough for use in your product. 
  • Download and review the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) document provided in the IFRA & SDS tab. Follow all safety guidelines recommended. Do not allow contact with skin or ingest. Follow all IFRA guidelines for dilution in product.  Care should be used in handling at all times.

For our Canadian Friends: we highly recommend Shippsy.com as a package forwarder. UPS charges very high brokerage fees and duty on oils even if they are manufactured in the United States. Shippsy will not charge these fees if a commercial invoice showing the oil origin is provided. We are happy to provide this upon request. You are responsible to ensure all import regulations are followed, including documentation and product approval. Scent Memory is responsible only for delivery to a US domestic address and consider orders closed once delivery confirmation is received.

International Shipping: At this time Scent Memory only ships within the United States and its territories. We are responsible only for delivery to a US domestic address and consider orders closed once delivery confirmation is received.

Shipping Policy: Scent Memory ships orders through the United States Postal Service and UPS. All orders are assigned tracking numbers which are transmitted to the customer within 24 hours of shipping.

Orders that are marked as delivered by the shipping carrier are considered complete. Scent Memory is not responsible for stolen or missing packages after the carrier conveys delivered status. Individuals should work with their local post office or UPS location to identify exact location of delivery.

Returned Packages: In the event of a returned package due to undeliverable location, customer refusal or incorrect address, Scent Memory will send the customer and invoice for redelivery. If this is not paid, a refund on the purchase will be made minus the original delivery fee.

Damaged Packages: In the event of a damaged package please contact info@scentmemoryfragrance.com with pictures of the packaging and the product, with a description of and the extent of the damage. This is required for Scent Memory to file a shipping damage claim.

Perfection

I've searched and searched for the perfect tea scent for over a year and I am so happy to say that this is it....the citrus is placed perfectly and is not overly sharp or bright and the earthiness of the tea comes through precisely. It also throws very well after a 3 week cure in my sox wax blend.

Ah, Earl Grey. The sophisticated, bookish cousin of regular tea. The scent of intellectuals, shmancy British things, and that one friend who always seems effortlessly put together. And let me tell you…this fragrance oil is Earl Grey personified!

It smells just like the real thing. Like, if you blindfolded me and made me sniff this and an actual cup of Earl Grey, I’d panic because why am I blindfolded? But after that, I’d perhaps struggle to tell the difference.

It soaped beautifully. No discoloration, no weird surprises; just a delightful, clean scent that stuck around (yay for scent retention)!!!!

I would attach a picture of my results, but alas, I am too lazy. So just trust me: it turned out great. Fantastic scent retention, excellent behavior, 10/10, would sniff again.

I've always thought Earl Grey tea was such a "pretty" smelling tea and this FO highlights that! It's unmistakably earl grey and oh so pretty. I think it's the brightness of the top notes and the jasmine. But it's not so pretty that it's too perfume-y or flowery. It's just the best possible take on Earl Grey

This is one of my favorite scents from SM, it really does smell like a bright zesty earl grey tea and it has a great cold and hot throw in soy wax. It’s also a great mixer, I’ve tried it with angora sweater and lait a la cardamom and both have worked beautifully.

I used this in wax melts (I use pillar of bliss) fantastic hot throw, long lasting I use it in a night light burner it will burn well 8 or 9 hours at a time 6 days in a row. Love it!!
My husband is an Earl Grey tea drinker makes him crave a cup.

I bought this for my Halloween Collection so I could call it "The Grey Lady". I accidentally lit my candle that's only been curing a week, power burned it over night and she smells Lovely. Light, citrus-floral tea scent once in wax, yet noticeable. OOB it's a bit pungent to my nose, but in wax, it mellows beautifully.

So far I've put this in room spray, wax melts, and soap. It did speed up slightly so you might want to go with a layered bar or something that isn't a delicate swirl. The scent is amazing though. At 5% it has excellent scent retention and hasn't discolored. I've tried out several Earl Grey tea fragrances and this is the best. It's layered with floral bergamot and earthy tea notes. It hits all the right notes and is incredibly well rounded.

I have a thing for tea fragrances and this one is simply gorgeous! The truest “early grey tea” fragrance oil I’ve ever come across - with that layered complexity that is found in most SMFOs, of course :) I think this would be great in a fall collection!

I have several tea fragrances, because at one point I toyed with doing a set of tea scented soaps. This is by far the most realistic tea fragrance I have ever smelled. It seems quite strong OOB, and I can actually taste the tea when I sniff it.

Out of bottle my husband said it smells like fruit snacks or fruity cereal, and couldn't guess that this was a tea scent. I was so worried because of that. But once I got it into a candle and lit it, it immediately made him recall memories of drinking earl grey tea on his apartment balcony during college. I didn't even have to give him a hint!

Agree about the tea

Just like the other review, I can really smell the tea. Often I find tea fragrance oils to be more perfume/cologne than actual tea. This is not. I get just the right amount of bergamot as well. Throws great. I definitely recommend this.
