About Fragrance Oil
  • The fragrance oils sold by Scent Memory are a manufacturing product. They are not skin safe on their own and must be diluted prior to use. 
  • Our oils are formulated to generally work in candle and body care applications, but must be tested for compatibility in your product. 
  • Due to the concentration of the oils safety precautions must be taken when handling them. 

What are fragrance oils?

Fragrance oils are synthetic or blended aromatic compounds designed to mimic natural scents or create entirely new ones. Unlike essential oils, which are extracted from plants, fragrance oils are crafted by blending aromatic chemicals and natural extracts. This careful formulation allows for a wide range of scents that may not be possible to achieve with essential oils alone and also allows for greater safety and performance in their applications. 

How Can Fragrance Oils Be Used?

Though they smell beautiful on their own, fragrance oils are a manufacturing product and must be diluted prior to use. They can be formulated for one specific purpose (such as for soap or in a candle) or for a wider range of applications - however, no one fragrance oil will work in ALL applications, so testing your products is a must. The fragrance oils that Scent Memory Fragrance offer are generally formulated to be safe in candle and body care applications. 

Are Fragrance Oils Safe On Their Own?

Just like any concentrated product, care must be used in handling fragrance oils prior to dilution in product. Every fragrance oil product page contains the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) in the "Regulatory Documents" tab. Download and review prior to using the fragrance oil.

  • Fragrance oils are a manufacturing product used in making candles, soap and other products. They must be diluted before use.
  • Refer to the IFRA tab for maximum skin safety usage rates, and review the IFRA document carefully. 
  • Maximum usage rates refer to skin safety percentages only and are not recommendations for usage rates in products or formulas. Refer to your formula for the recommended usage rate, and do not use the fragrance oil if the IFRA rate is not rated highly enough for use in your product. 
  • Download and review the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) document provided in the IFRA & SDS tab. Follow all safety guidelines recommended. Do not allow contact with skin or ingest. Follow all IFRA guidelines for dilution in product.  Care should be used in handling at all times.

For our Canadian Friends: we highly recommend Shippsy.com as a package forwarder. UPS charges very high brokerage fees and duty on oils even if they are manufactured in the United States. Shippsy will not charge these fees if a commercial invoice showing the oil origin is provided. We are happy to provide this upon request. You are responsible to ensure all import regulations are followed, including documentation and product approval. Scent Memory is responsible only for delivery to a US domestic address and consider orders closed once delivery confirmation is received.

International Shipping: At this time Scent Memory only ships within the United States and its territories. We are responsible only for delivery to a US domestic address and consider orders closed once delivery confirmation is received.

Shipping Policy: Scent Memory ships orders through the United States Postal Service and UPS. All orders are assigned tracking numbers which are transmitted to the customer within 24 hours of shipping.

Orders that are marked as delivered by the shipping carrier are considered complete. Scent Memory is not responsible for stolen or missing packages after the carrier conveys delivered status. Individuals should work with their local post office or UPS location to identify exact location of delivery.

Returned Packages: In the event of a returned package due to undeliverable location, customer refusal or incorrect address, Scent Memory will send the customer and invoice for redelivery. If this is not paid, a refund on the purchase will be made minus the original delivery fee.

Damaged Packages: In the event of a damaged package please contact info@scentmemoryfragrance.com with pictures of the packaging and the product, with a description of and the extent of the damage. This is required for Scent Memory to file a shipping damage claim.

Love at first sniff

The citrus notes really come out in CP soap but it doesn’t detract from the damp earthy smell. No acceleration or discoloration. I also blended it with The Violet Hour in another batch of soap and it was a beautiful combination.

Just like exploring the forest

Very strong OOB, but not in a bad way. The soil note pops out immediately then the basil and pine notes come in and you can literally smell the dampness. It's such a unique fragrance, and it reminds me of playing outside as a kid.

4 Stars for being exactly what it says it is; the dampness hits you and is persistent, and leans towards mop bucket to my nose (on a blotter strip). I do not think I will use this alone, but am intrigued with potential blends with other green/nature or oils or even left-field blends, since after dry-down the dampness does settle a bit and the soil, mushroom and other natural notes peak out more. This with Santa Lucia was very interesting.

This is absolutely stunning in a candle. It’s rich and earthy.
Straight out of the bottle will take your breath, but trust the process. Once in a product it is Devine.

This FO is exactly as described. It smells like the forest floor was bottled up in liquid form. When I smelled this, I was transported to the outdoors-the memories of recent hikes, planting my winter garden. It’s 10/10 for realism.
It’s very unique-no other supplier will have something like this! I will use this as a blender, and I’m imagining so many amazing scents inspired by the forest, earth, and greenery.

I really love petrichor, earthy, mossy scents. When you add mushrooms to the mix, it takes it to a whole new level. This is so unique, smells just like it's name. And the HT in #9 wax at 9% is 9/10. Love it!

So.

It is exactly as it says on the tin. It smells like you have tripped and fallen face first into mushrooms and wet forest dirt.

I do not want to put this in anything. I cannot see a need for a mushroom scented soap or wax melts or ...perfume?? No.

BUT it is exactly as the listing describes, and it soaped wonderfully - no ricing, no acceleration, no discoloration. It gets four stars for that, and then into the destash pile it goes...

This is a great blender for anyone who wants their fragrance to take them on an adventure. I've been planning to make a candle based on mushroom foraging, and this FO is perfect for building onto.

Let me tell you about Forest Floor.. this is the outdoorsy smell you never knew you wanted but definitely needed. I tested it in a candle and carried it while I ran errands (not as weird as it sounds, I was picking up food on my way from my studio to the shop where I planned to test it), and the owners of the restaurant could smell it just from the cold throw alone. They told me that as soon as I have them ready and tested to sell to stop by because they were obsessed and wanted them. Just buy the big bottle. You'll need it.

OOB my first time- smelled like pure raw mushrooms. Then a handful of time oob afterwards, it kept smelling like dirt/soil. BUT, once I poured and made a wax melt out of it and waited 2.5-3 weeks, the strong dirt smell quieted down and now I smell a soft forest floor and definitely mushrooms. I'm going to try and mix it with other earthly scents.

I'm really torn with this fragrance. There's no doubt it's a good, strong fragrance--it smells of mushroom and petrichor and rich damp soil. But I certainly don't want it in soap, and I really don't think I want a candle filling my house with this scent. Hence my dilemma. I don't dislike it, and it's very interesting, but I don't want to surrounding me all the time. I guess until I figure out what to do with it, I'll just open it and sniff it every now and then.

Normally I'm not a fan of "dirt" kind of fragrances. This FO is SO good though. No surprise really considering that SM always amazes me. I smell mushroom and dirt and so many more notes in the background. Throws really well and I only made the candle yesterday. I think this FO is good on its own or would be great as a blender.
