About Fragrance Oil
  • The fragrance oils sold by Scent Memory are a manufacturing product. They are not skin safe on their own and must be diluted prior to use.
  • Our oils are formulated to generally work in candle and body care applications, but must be tested for compatibility in your product.
  • Due to the concentration of the oils safety precautions must be taken when handling them.

What are fragrance oils?

Fragrance oils are synthetic or blended aromatic compounds designed to mimic natural scents or create entirely new ones. Unlike essential oils, which are extracted from plants, fragrance oils are crafted by blending aromatic chemicals and natural extracts. This careful formulation allows for a wide range of scents that may not be possible to achieve with essential oils alone and also allows for greater safety and performance in their applications.

How Can Fragrance Oils Be Used?

Though they smell beautiful on their own, fragrance oils are a manufacturing product and must be diluted prior to use. They can be formulated for one specific purpose (such as for soap or in a candle) or for a wider range of applications - however, no one fragrance oil will work in ALL applications, so testing your products is a must. The fragrance oils that Scent Memory Fragrance offer are generally formulated to be safe in candle and body care applications.

Are Fragrance Oils Safe On Their Own?

Just like any concentrated product, care must be used in handling fragrance oils prior to dilution in product. Every fragrance oil product page contains the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) in the "Regulatory Documents" tab. Download and review prior to using the fragrance oil.

Safety Information
  • Fragrance oils are a manufacturing product used in making candles, soap and other products. They must be diluted before use.
  • Refer to the IFRA tab for maximum skin safety usage rates, and review the IFRA document carefully.
  • Maximum usage rates refer to skin safety percentages only and are not recommendations for usage rates in products or formulas. Refer to your formula for the recommended usage rate, and do not use the fragrance oil if the IFRA rate is not rated highly enough for use in your product.
  • Download and review the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) document provided in the IFRA & SDS tab. Follow all safety guidelines recommended. Do not allow contact with skin or ingest. Follow all IFRA guidelines for dilution in product.  Care should be used in handling at all times.

After buying and testing several petrichor scents and getting tester opinions!! This one is the Winner! Very little doubt in my mind going in, as per usual!

Smells great!

I am from the PNW. This fragrance reminded me of rain storms that flooded the bark dust and got it all over my sidewalk. Heavy hitter. One drop goes a long way. I mixed it with something and it was too overwhelming and didn't use it in anything else.

The perfect petrichor! It does not get better than this.

Absolutely gorgeous and complex petrichor, dirt notes and all. Soaped with it and it behaved well, allowing for swirls, and didn't discolor. Fragrance stayed strong, especially when used in the shower. It's one of those that you can smell through the whole apartment when someone uses it, and it smells very complex and expensive. Absolutely evergreen, I need to try it in wax soon.

Agree- best petrichor. And there are some good ones out there, don’t get me wrong. I actually like this one, I honestly didn’t understand what the fuss was about, a candle that smells like dirt! But I’m really in love with this version.

The best petrichor scent I've come across. A perfect combo of earthy and ozone.

The best wet soil, earthy, petrichor scent I have found so far by a mile. It's so perfectly balanced and not too heavy on the "dirt". It has just enough to keep it earthy, but not dirty. And it's not too overwhelming when blending with other scents, making it the perfect petrichor scent.

T

Very realistic. Like right after a heavy rain in the summer. That smell when a warm breeze carries the scent of rain-drenched earth, grass, flowers, and trees. Such a great earthy/rain scent!

M
M.M.

Magical scent. I pick up on the ozone more than wet ground. To me it smells like the storm is coming more than after the rain.

M

Accurate to the description in Ceda Serica wax both cold & hot, throws strong. I do think the cedar, patchouli, and green florals are on the lighter side. which allows tis to create an airy atmosphere.

T
T.L.

Unlike all the other ozone-laced “pre-storm” fragrances out there, this one adds a reminiscence of earthiness through the judicious use of a crisp patchouli note. On its own, the patchouli is more dominant, but blended with notes of wet ink, papyrus, green leaves, or forest floor moss, it takes on a new complexity that portends the goose flesh, tingle down your spine experience of a real banger of a storm!

a
a.k.p.

If you’re looking for a true to life petrichor scent, you have come to the right place. The scent performs well in coconut wax and smells like ozone, wet concrete, and earth. I think it would appeal to the right customer as a very niche scent. I personally do not like it, but I do like what it offers when blended with many of the SM florals (Norwegian Wildflowers or, oddly, Geranium and Incense!). I MUCH prefer Mossy Forest Scent for an earthier, woodsier version of a petrichor-like scent. So, I think you need BOTH scents to compare. I stand by my 5 star review because of the oil quality and how well it captures a summer rain shower.

J

Oh my god, buy this. Hands down the best petrichor scent I’ve ever come across! I personally love the smell after a summer rain shower, and having this fragrance at my disposal feels like I’m cheating the matrix somehow! My go-to summer scent for candles. SO GOOD!

B

A good petrichor fragrance. Soil and ozone primarily. Great for blending. With any nature scent, you can turn it into a rainy day using a bit of this. I love this as a niche fragrance.

I have waited a long time for the perfect storm scent and this IS IT! If you love earthy, complex, and the exact smell of being in a storm - this is it! Its an incredible, fresh, woody, ozone and petrichor scent that is the PERFECT STORM! I also like to blend it with by the fireplace to give it a cozy vybe as well. It works very well in wax melts hot and cold, and room spray as well!!

A
A.G.

I have sat on this one for a long time. It is hyperrealsitic and atmospheric so would appeal to a small niche. I have been waiting for the right scent to blend it with & I think I have finally found the winning combo. This with Norwegian Wildflowers is exceptionally good. I'm so happy to have found that blend. The Coming Storm is brilliant for what it is and those who like that (and I am one of them) but blending it will give it a broader appeal.

Does a good job at being Earthy.

M
M.W.

This is a lovely and complex fragrance. I’m not great with scent description but if you have ever walked outside while a big storm is brewing, you know what this smells like. I soaped with it and it soaped beautifully. Decelerated trace, no ricing, no discoloration, scent retention is maybe 50% after 6 weeks and I used it at 1oz/PPO. So I’m sure you could increase that and have stronger results without going over IFRA

B
B.G.

Out of the bottle it's pretty straight forward petrichor and wet soil, but once it was in my soap it transformed into a stunning fresh storm fragrance!

Unique and electrifying

Great representation of a brewing storm. I smell the petrichor notes, woods, ozone, and I swear that I can smell electricity from the anticipated flashes of lightning (if that’s even a smell?) I get less of a rain scent, which is what I was expecting. I’m so grateful it’s not because rain scents seem to smell fake and chemically to me. This one is far more interesting.

My memories that come to me while smelling this in wax.
Rainy days in the summer at my family’s cottage. The smell of the lake, the grass being wet. Then after the rain picking a spot to dig up worms. That freshly turned over soil that’s still wet.

REALISTIC

This is fragrance oil is so realistic it’s eerie. It immediately triggered an emotional response from one of my customers—it’s so, so, so spot on. I would say it’s not for everyone but definitely a great novelty fragrance. I made cold process soap with it, and it did well. Super strong, great scent retention, some ricing but not a lot of acceleration and no discoloration.

Bring on the RAIN!!

So I'm a sucker for a fantastic petricore scent, & this my friends is it. I have yet to mix it like a mad scientist with my many ideas for earthy, woodsy scented candles. I can say that when used at 10% in CAC, CT & HT are outstanding & all that is necessary is to close your eyes, breath in and picture the clouds rolling over the hills and the gentle sound of the rain drops tap dancing on the leaves. So in love.

After the rain

It's similar to a after the rain FO from another supplier, except this did not discolor and imo has more depth. Slight acceleration but otherwise good. I don't smell any patchouli, but maybe that's just my nose. I definitely recommend this to soap makers!
