About Fragrance Oil
  • The fragrance oils sold by Scent Memory are a manufacturing product. They are not skin safe on their own and must be diluted prior to use. 
  • Our oils are formulated to generally work in candle and body care applications, but must be tested for compatibility in your product. 
  • Due to the concentration of the oils safety precautions must be taken when handling them. 

What are fragrance oils?

Fragrance oils are synthetic or blended aromatic compounds designed to mimic natural scents or create entirely new ones. Unlike essential oils, which are extracted from plants, fragrance oils are crafted by blending aromatic chemicals and natural extracts. This careful formulation allows for a wide range of scents that may not be possible to achieve with essential oils alone and also allows for greater safety and performance in their applications. 

How Can Fragrance Oils Be Used?

Though they smell beautiful on their own, fragrance oils are a manufacturing product and must be diluted prior to use. They can be formulated for one specific purpose (such as for soap or in a candle) or for a wider range of applications - however, no one fragrance oil will work in ALL applications, so testing your products is a must. The fragrance oils that Scent Memory Fragrance offer are generally formulated to be safe in candle and body care applications. 

Are Fragrance Oils Safe On Their Own?

Just like any concentrated product, care must be used in handling fragrance oils prior to dilution in product. Every fragrance oil product page contains the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) in the "Regulatory Documents" tab. Download and review prior to using the fragrance oil. 
Safety Information
  • Fragrance oils are a manufacturing product used in making candles, soap and other products. They must be diluted before use.
  • Refer to the IFRA tab for maximum skin safety usage rates, and review the IFRA document carefully. 
  • Maximum usage rates refer to skin safety percentages only and are not recommendations for usage rates in products or formulas. Refer to your formula for the recommended usage rate, and do not use the fragrance oil if the IFRA rate is not rated highly enough for use in your product. 
  • Download and review the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) document provided in the IFRA & SDS tab. Follow all safety guidelines recommended. Do not allow contact with skin or ingest. Follow all IFRA guidelines for dilution in product.  Care should be used in handling at all times.

For our Canadian Friends: we highly recommend Shippsy.com as a package forwarder. UPS charges very high brokerage fees and duty on oils even if they are manufactured in the United States. Shippsy will not charge these fees if a commercial invoice showing the oil origin is provided. We are happy to provide this upon request. You are responsible to ensure all import regulations are followed, including documentation and product approval. Scent Memory is responsible only for delivery to a US domestic address and consider orders closed once delivery confirmation is received.

International Shipping: At this time Scent Memory only ships within the United States and its territories. We are responsible only for delivery to a US domestic address and consider orders closed once delivery confirmation is received.

Shipping Policy: Scent Memory ships orders through the United States Postal Service and UPS. All orders are assigned tracking numbers which are transmitted to the customer within 24 hours of shipping.

Orders that are marked as delivered by the shipping carrier are considered complete. Scent Memory is not responsible for stolen or missing packages after the carrier conveys delivered status. Individuals should work with their local post office or UPS location to identify exact location of delivery.

Returned Packages: In the event of a returned package due to undeliverable location, customer refusal or incorrect address, Scent Memory will send the customer and invoice for redelivery. If this is not paid, a refund on the purchase will be made minus the original delivery fee.

Damaged Packages: In the event of a damaged package please contact info@scentmemoryfragrance.com with pictures of the packaging and the product, with a description of and the extent of the damage. This is required for Scent Memory to file a shipping damage claim.

Unfortunately, I don't care for this fragrance. Based on the notes, I expected something smoky, resinous, spicy, and complex. My nose is only picking up lots of fresh rose, amber, and a wee hint of spice. This one is a hard pass for me.

I am familiar with Boy Smells and own a few of their candles. Hadn’t smelled this one but decided to order as I know it’s their most popular one. I was expecting something a little sweeter/more berry smelling but to me, this leans heavier on the papyrus/cedar notes.

This one pleasantly surprised me - I wasn’t expecting it to be as dark and smokey as it is, but I absolutely love it! I cannot wait to get this into wax and perfumer’s alcohol and add it to my upcoming summer collection. Beautiful!

Sweet smoke and very subtle. I use this one as a blender to add some earthiness to roll on oils. It is not super sweet or so smokey you can’t breathe, but those notes are present in this lovely scent. In the winter time, I add it to heavy fir scents to make a holiday themed candle feel even more homey. On its own, I could not get a strong HT in coconut wax, but if you like atmospheric smoke-inspired scents, please try it. If you need a blender scent, this one is 5 star!

Stunning. I use this scent in my collection of scents inspired by women in history for Joan of Arc. Yes, I know it's a little macabre to name a smokey scent after Joan of Arc. Sorry, not sorry. It's perfect for her. The incense notes really give it a vaguely Catholic vibe, the rose and raspberry add a little bit of youthfulness, and the rest of the notes just feel *right* for the time period she lived in. It has a strong ct and good ht in soy wax and works well in perfume, too.

Very smoky and hard to describe. There's definitely a lot of resinous, papery notes in there. Smoky and glowing are great adjectives. It is extremely smoky. I don't get any hint at all of the raspberry and rose- they are very subtle and well blended, so this doesn't smell sweet or floral at all. Very unisex and homey.

This one has grown on me. At first, I wasn't crazy about it (seemed too heavy or sweet OOB) but in a candle, it becomes gently atmospheric. It has a smoldering sensuality that is great when you need to warm up a chilly, dark night. The incense suggestion by another reviewer was a great idea, too. It might be too heavy as a perfume or in body care, but I'm interested in reading what others are finding in specific applications.

This fragrance oil works in soap (discolored brown though), but I personally prefer it in a candle. Throws great. In soap it's a little too earthy spicy noted. Maybe if it was mixed with another fo it'd make a nice fall/winter soap? I've never smelled the original, so no clue if it's a good dupe. It certainly smells expensive, as normal for SM.
