New To Fragrance Oils? Read On!
Are you new to the world of making or fragrance oils? Confused as to what they are, how to use them, why there are so many warnings on the label? Let's clear that up!
It can take a long time to learn everything there is about fragrance oils, so the below is a basic primer to start you out.
TLDR:
- The fragrance oils sold by Scent Memory are a manufacturing product. They are not skin safe on their own and must be diluted prior to use.
- Our oils are formulated to generally work in candle and body care applications, but must be tested for compatibiity in your product.
- Due to the concentration of the oils safety precautions must be taken when handling them.
The Basics: What Are Fragrance Oils?
Fragrance oils are synthetic or blended aromatic compounds designed to mimic natural scents or create entirely new ones. Unlike essential oils, which are extracted from plants, fragrance oils are crafted by blending aromatic chemicals and natural extracts. This careful formulation allows for a wide range of scents that may not be possible to achieve with essential oils alone and also allows for greater safety and performance in their applications.
How Can Fragrance Oils Be Used?
Though they smell beautiful on their own, fragarance oils are a manufacturing product and must be diluted prior to use. They can be formulated for one specific purpose (such as for soap or in a candle) or for a wider range of applications - however, no one fragrance oil will work in ALL applications, so testing your products is a must. The fragrance oils that Scent Memory Fragrance offer are generally formulated to be safe in candle and body care applications.
Are Fragrance Oils Safe On Their Own?
Just like any very concentrated product, care must be used in handling fragrance oils prior to dilution in product. Every fragrance oil product page contains the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) in the "Regulatory Documents" tab. Download and review prior to using the fragrance oil.
